Laboratory Experience – Research Assistant
August-November 2011: Lab of Dr. Timothy Eglinton – ETHZ, Zurich, Switzerland

  • Recipient of the ThinkSwiss Research Scholarship
  • Designed experiments to determine the reliability and accuracy of a CRDS analyzer in measuring deuterium and oxygen-18 in water
  • Took water samples for analysis of isotope variability along the Rhone River and its tributaries on excursions across Switzerland

August 2009–June 2011: Lab of Dr. Carrie Masiello – Rice University, Houston, TX

  • Project design, implementation, and data analysis for greenhouse trials of biochar, mycorrhizae, and N interactions
  • Collected data on plant composition using a Costech Elemental Analyzer, measured CO2 concentration with a LI-COR CO2/H2O analyzer
  • Collected basic 13C solid-state NMR spectra of charcoal and biomass, collected FTIR and XPS data
  • Basic Biology skills: making slides, staining, microscope work

January 2012-Present: Lab Manager: Dr. Daniela Cusack – UCLA, Los Angeles, CA

  • Oversaw lab setup including instrument installation, protocol development, supply ordering, and managed undergraduate lab assistants
  • Analyze samples on a Shimadzu TOC/TN analyzer, NH4+/NO3- fluorometer, performed data quality control and analysis

International Field Experience

October 2010: Belize

  • Geological barrier reef studies, environmental-reef interactions, climate effects

May 2009: Morocco

  • Intensive field studies with Dr. Andre Droxler and Dr. Gerald Dickens
  • Focused on questions of understanding Morocco’s geologic history

I2M Function

Mr. LeCroy will be involved in I2M projects in Mexico, Latin America and other Spanish-speaking countries. He will assist in reconnaissance projects and in associated geological assessments. He will also provide technical translations and will serve as an interpreter for in-country activities in Mexico, Latin America and elsewhere.
